As the entertainment industry is growing in leaps and bounds so also are the pockets of the artistes. Be it music, comedy or movies, most of them are smiling to the banks courtesy of their creativity and of course, endorsements by blue chip companies.

However we went to town to seek the opinion of some players in the sector to know if the development is a welcome one or if there is any form of discrimination?

It is a welcome development. Sometimes, these companies have to use something to sell their products. For instance, MTN as a telecoms company is currently using Don Jazzy who sometimes gives out recharge cards to his numerous fans for free. With that kind of gesture, some of his die hard fans who are not using MTN may migrate to MTN. The company will also be making their money through Jazzy. Same thing goes to Davido, Iyanya among others

First and foremost, it is the choice of the company who they choose to use for their brand. It is a two way thing. It gives recognition to the artiste as well as the company in whatever they set out to achieve with whoever they are using as their face. It is ok for those who have got it. I don’t think a brand would want to associate with artistes with bad reputation.

It is a great thing. It helps to encourage artistes to work harder. It is a great initiative. Endorsement companies know what they look out for in the artiste they choose

They have to employ any means to improve their business. They have to use faces that are there already. Modelling is modelling, whether they are known or not. There is nothing like discrimination. It all depends on what they want. For instance, I was recently made an ambassador and I feel I deserve it. I don’t just jump at any offer because I want to become an ambassador. I think it is good for our artiste

I am very comfortable with it. It is a way of celebrating our artistes and getting our money back from some of these foreign companies as the case may be. It is even a kind of compensation. In business, there are certain considerations. It all depends on what they want to advertise and achieve at the end of the day

I don’t see anything wrong with that. Every other country does that so, why should our own be different

It is fine by me. Firstly, it is a way of elevating our colleagues and giving them hot recognition. I feel it is good as they are using us to endorse their products instead of using outsiders
