Manchester United manager David Moyes knows that he has to start rebuilding the team as soon as the January transfer window opens and Leighton Baines will be his priority target.
News has emerged from France that Monaco and possibly PSG are ready to offer Patrice Evra a final big payday in an attempt to persuade the United left-back to move in January.
The deal which is rumoured to be worth £31.2m spread over a four year contract period, will offer a weekly wage of around £150,000 with a signing-on fee of £5m. Both Monaco and PSG are said to have offered almost identical bids for the player and it is up to Evra which club he chooses.
In a somewhat parallel story, we have established that David Moyes has been told by Everton that only an offer of £20m or more will tempt them to allow left-back Leighton Baines to leave the club in the January transfer window. With recent better-than-ever financial results at Manchester United, this figure will be no problem for Moyes and it is generally expected that they will more than recoup this with the sale of Evra as mentioned above. Again, Baines has told friends that he would like the opportunity to join Manchester United and be reunited with his former manager, but he wants it sorted out before the World Cup next year and does not want to be involved in transfer dealings right before a World Cup campaign.
I expect there to be a number of new signings at Old Trafford in January as Moyes has now found his feet somewhat at the club and is ready to launch the necessary transfer bids for the players he needs to hone the campaign for another League Title.
