Sixteen teams were expected to complete their Champions League group stage campaigns on Tuesday evening, yet only 14 succeeded as snow-covered Istanbul prevented Galatasaray and Juventus from finishing their Group B encounter.

It would be a night of mixed emotions as some historic names on the European circuit, such as Benfica, made an early exit from the competition, Cristiano Ronaldo broke another record, and there was a fond farewell to Nelson Mandela paid around the continent.
